YELLOW-BREASTED BOATBILL: Machaerirhynchus flaviventer 12 cm

• In Australia the Yellow-breasted Boatbill is restricted to north Queensland.

• It is a flycatcher that forages mainly in the middle storey of rainforests.

• The male is mainly black and yellow, with a wide bill and often a cocked tail.

• The female is duller.    

• The call is a soft ‘pee-dee-dee-dee-wit’.

• Usually in pairs, it is an active feeder in foliage.  It also hawks flying insects.

• Near Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodge it is moderately common.
